Protest March against Curtailment of Water Supply & Power Cuts in Port Blair

            The Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association taken out a procession today (13th March, 2012) at 5 p.m.  from the Crusade House premises at Phoenix Bay, to protest against the curtailment of water supply and power cut at Port Blair and South Andaman areas.  The procession proceeded to Aberdeen Bazar and culminated near the Model Sr. Secondary School junction.  A large number of government employees including women employees had participated in the procession.  They gave vent to their anger by shouting slogans against the water curtailment and power cut.  Addressing the gathering, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Association  said that even after 65 years of our independence and spending  thousands of crores of rupees,  a population of  one lakh  in the Port Blair  town are getting  drinking water  once in three days  that too for  15 minutes.   He said the Administration has failed to undertake and implement any of the promised   drinking water projects for providing water to Port Blair town.  Condemning the sudden announcement of power cut in the Port Blair and South Andaman areas, he said that this has put thousands of students into inconvenience at these days when examinations including Board examinations are going on.   He demanded an inquiry as to how the private firm SPCL has shut down their generators for maintenance during this crucial period.   Shri SC Biswas, President, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary, Shri Sadanand Rai, Vice President and Smt Rekha Sharma led the procession.
