NGOs' Association expresses concern over the Privatisation of Health Sector

A meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association held on 24^th March 2012 at Port Blair, has expressed concern over the move on the part of the Administration to privatize the health sector in the islands. A resolution adopted in the meeting noted that as part of the privatization of the entire health sector, the Administration has handed over the running of two Primary Health Centres – at Kishorinagar in Diglipur and Chouldari in South Andaman – to private agencies. This move will not only affect the employment chance of educated local youths, but will also lead to deterioration of health care system in the islands. Such a situation will, in turn, adversely affect the lower strata of the society, the resolution noted. The meeting resolved to urge upon the A & N Administration to refrain from handing over Primary Health Centres/Dispensaries to private agencies.
