Protest against curtailment of water supply

           The Central Secretariat meeting of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands held at Port Blair today (07.03.2012) expressed concern over the water curtailment introduced by the A & N Administration at Port Blair and South Andaman areas.  In a resolution adopted in the meeting, the Association noted that the curtailment of water has caused inconvenience to the people especially the government employees of Port Blair and South Andaman areas.  The meeting noted that water supply has been reduced to duration of 15 to 20 minutes once in three days which cannot meet the requirement of people.  The meeting further noted that the Andaman and Nicobar Administration could not implement any of the drinking water projects for making available sufficient water to the Port Blair Municipal area.  The meeting noted that despite spending crores of rupees by the Government of India for the development of these islands, sufficient drinking water is not available for a population of 2 lakhs at Port Blair and South Andaman areas. The meeting decided to protest against the water curtailment and   to conduct some programmes in this regard.    Shri SC Biswas, President presided over the meeting. Shri D.
