The two-day Annual Conference of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, began at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair today the 18th February, 2012 at 4.30 p.m. Inaugurating the Conference, Shri M.S.Raja, Secretary of the Confederation of Central Govt. Employees and Workers’ and Member National Council, JCM, Govt. of India, said that the NDA government in 2003 had stopped the pension to government employees and in its place introduced the New Pension Scheme under which 10% of the salary of employees will be deducted towards the so-called pension and there is no guarantee that the pension will be given to the employees once they attain retirement. He said that the Pension system in the country was introduced in 1921 by Britishers. He demanded pay revision of central government employees in every five years as is being done in the case of Bank, LIC, Public Sector Undertakings employees. He said that a number of issues arising out of the Sixth Central Pay Commission are yet to be sorted out. He said that central government employees all over the country will join central trade unions in the All India Strike on 28th February, 2012 against various anti-working class policies of the central government. Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU A & N State Committee and Shri Shanker Chakranborty, Secretary, Botanical Survey of India Employees Association also addressed Inaugural Session.

Earlier, Shri SC Biswas, President of the Association hoisted the Association’s flag and the Chief Guest and others paid tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column at the Kerala Samajam premises. Shri R. Ranjan, Chairman, Reception Committee for the Annual Conference welcomed the gathering. A large number of government employees and others attended the Inaugural Session. Shri AK Sharma, Secretary, Reception Committee proposed a Vote of Thanks. Earlier on the day, on his arrival at Port Blair airport today (18.02.2012), Shri MS Raja was received by a large number of members of the Association led by Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary.
