Mass Dharna by Teachers

PRESS STATEMENT

The Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers' Association, Andaman and Nicobar Islands has today (28.10.09) organised Mass Dharna and procession at various places of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to protest against the delay in settling various pending demands of teachers working under the Education Department. At Port Blair, an Evening Mass Dharna was organised in front of the Directorate of Education, Port Blair from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today which was inaugurated by Com. K. G. Das, former General Secretary of the Association. Hundreds of teachers, among them a good number of women teachers, participated in the Mass Dharna. Com. D Ayyappan, General Secretary, Com. T S Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary, Com. B B Singh, Vice President, South Andaman Teachers' Branch, Com. Venkat Rama Rao, Secretary, SATB, Com. G P Mondal and Heera Lal Prasad addressed the gathering while Com. S C Biswas, President proposed vote of thanks. At Diglipur, Mass Demonstration was held in front of the office of the Deputy Education Officer by a large number of teachers and other employees. The programme was led by D N Baneerjee, P J Eappen, N K Paul and K P Paul. At Rangat, a mass demonstration was held in front of the office of Deputy Education Officer, Rangat. Santhosh Kumar Roy , Sadan Ch. Das and other led the programme. At Kadamtala, an Evening Mass Dharna was held in front of the Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Kadamtala which was led by K L Howelder and Tapan Kumar Sen. The Demands highlighted during the programme were
1. Grant of ISDA to teachers during summer vacation,
2. Settlement of pending transfer TA bills
3. Grant of financial upgradation under earlier ACP Scheme
4. Implementation of Modified ACP Scheme
5. Confirmation of Teachers etc.,
