Convention on PFRDA Bill

A Convention on Pension Fund Regulatory & Development Authority (PFRDA) Bill was held at Port Blair today (5.11.2011). Inaugurating the Convention, Shri B. Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU, Andaman and Nicobar State Committee said that the New Pension Scheme was introduced in the country as part of the Policy of Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation initiated by the central government in 1991. He said that central trade unions including INTUC and BMS have now come together to protect the interests of working class. Addressing the Convention, Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association said that a massive signature campaign on a petition addressed to the Prime Minister has started throughout the country by central government employees, state government employees and BSNL employees and one crore signatures will be submitted to the Lok Sabha Speaker on 25th November, 2011 when a Parliament March will also be organized by government employees. Shri P. Banerjee, former President of the Association, addressing the Convention said that Pension system prevailed in our country even in ancient era and the Britishers had legalized it through Law. Shri Lawrence Fernandez, former President of the Association said that Pension is a right of the employees and stoppage of it was a great injustice to them. The Convention was also addressed by Shri Sankar Chakraborty of Botanical Survey of India Employees Association, Shri SP Kalairajan of BSNL Employees Union, Shri Steephen Fernandez of Postal Union and Shri TS Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary. Shri Sadanand Rai, Vice President of the Association presided over the Convention. A large number of government employees from Port Blair and South Andaman areas attended the Convention.
