Protest against the arbitrary decision by the Directorate of Education, A & N Islands


PRESS STATEMENT

An emergency meeting of the South Andaman Teachers’ Branch of Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association chaired by Shri. H L Prasad, Vice President of the Branch was held at 5.30 p.m. at Crusade House, Phoneix Bay, Port Blair. The above meeting has taken a decision to protest the arbitrary decision of the Directorate of Education, A & N Administration to enhance the minimum number of working hours of school teachers from the existing 06 hours to 7 ½ hours per day without any consultation with teaching community and ensuring basic infrastructural facilities and posting of teachers as per the norms and standards mentioned in the Right to Education Act 2009.

The meeting decided to demand the Administration to keep in abeyance the order issued by the Education Department till the matter is discussed with the service association and a decision is taken on it. The meeting also decided to resort to agitation if the demand is not resolved amicably.
