Delegation of SATB meets Chief Secretary

PRESS STATEMENT

A delegation of Non-Gazetted Government Officers' Association, Andaman & Nicobar Islands led by Shri. T.S.Sreekumar, General Secretary(i/c) met the Chief Secretary today (22.10.2010) and discussed with him the issue arising out of the order issued by the Education Department recently increasing the duty hours of the teachers.
The delegation informed the Chief Secretary that the decision to increase the duty hours of the teachers was taken by the Education Department unilaterally without consulting the Service Association.
After hearing the Association delegation, the Chief Secretary telephonically directed the Director of Education to defer the implementation of the above said order for the time being. The Association express its gratitude to the Chief Secretary for this decision.
It may be recalled that the Non-Gazetted Government Officers' Association on 21.10.2010 had decided to resort to agitation in case the Administration stick to implementation of the above said order, by mobilizing the teaching community in the islands.
The Association will review the issue and take appropriate action in the matter very soon. Other members in the delegation were Shri. H L Prasad, Shri. Venkat Rama Rao, Shri. P Jay Murthy, the VicePresident, Secretary, Joint Secretary respectively of South Andaman Teachers' Branch and Smti. Rekha Sharma, Organising Secretary, Central Committee, NGOs' Association.
