RAJ NIWAS MARCH on Teacher's Day

On the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the South Andaman Teachers’ Branch of the Non-Gazetted Government Officers’ Association has organized a Raj Nivas March today (05.09.2010) at Port Blair in which hundreds of teachers including a large number of women teachers working at Port Blair and South Andaman areas participated. Shri SK Afser Ali, Vice President and Shri Venkat Rama Rao, Secretary, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch led the Raj Nivas March. The Raj Nivas March was inaugurated at the starting point in front of the Directorate of Education at 5 p.m. by Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary of the Association. Addressing the teachers, he said that the Govt. of India has adopted a step-motherly treatment towards the problems of the government working in these islands. While the upgraded Pay under Part B has been allowed to the Headmasters and other left-out categories of teachers working in Delhi, Kendriya Vidyalya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, etc. the same has been denied to the teachers working in Andaman & Nicoabr Islands. The procession was stopped near the Raj Nivas Gate. A delegation of the Association led by Shri SC Biswas, President of the Association went to Raj Nivas and presented a Memorandum containing the demands to Smt Achla Singh, Secretary to the Lt. Governor who by accepting the Memorandum assured the delegation that the points raised by the Association will be placed before the Hon’ble Lt. Governor for appropriate action. Later on, Shri TS Sreekumar, Asst. General Secretary and Shri H.L. Prasad, Vice President, South Andaman Teachers’ Branch addressed the gathering. The issues highlighted during the Raj Nivas March and included in the Memorandum are (1) to remove anomaly in the Grade Pay of Head Master (Middle), Head Master (Primary) and other left-out categories of teachers viz., Librarians, PETs, PSRTs, Music Teachers, Craft Instructors, etc. (2) Grant of ISDA during summer vacation to all the vacational staff of Education Department (3) Amendment of Recruitment Rules to ensure single line promotion to all categories of teachers (4) Regularisation of adhoc services of teachers from their initial appointments (5) Grant of financial upgradation to left out teachers under earlier ACP Scheme (6) Timely grant of financial upgradation under Modified ACP Scheme (7) Award of ACP/MACP to left out teachers viz. GTTs without B.Ed. and PSTs without J.B.T. (8) Allotment of sufficient funds for settling pending Transfer TA bills (9) Timely confirmation of all categories of teachers (10) Arrange B.Ed training for qualified teachers.
