General Secretary takes up the issue of shortage of LPG in various parts of islands

To

The Secretary-cum- Director (CS & CA),
A & N Administration,
Port Blair.

Sub: Shortage of LPG various parts of the Islands –Regarding

Sir,

I am to invite your kind attention to the acute scarcity of LPG cylinders in various parts of the Islands. This is happening only because of mis-management in distribution as per the schedules. The severe shortage of Gas cylinders affected common man very badly in many parts of the Islands such as Port Blair, Mayabunder, Rangat, Billy Ground etc. The worst affected area is Mayabunder, the head quarter of North & Middle Andaman. Chaotic situation is recurring at Mayabunder whenever LPG truck reaches once in a blue moon. News paper reports and also requests from various corners to district authorities for intervention on the issue have not yielded any improvement in the situation.

Also in Port Blair the situation is not different. Distribution of refilled LPG Cylinders is quite irregular in many wards at Port Blair Municipal area. The distribution agency is taking 45 days or more for supply of refilled cylinders. As a result general public are forced to collect cylinders from the Gas godown at Brookshabad wasting time and money for transportation of Gas cylinders. Even in this digital era, serpentine queue of hundreds of people braving sun and rain is a common sight at Brookshabad gas godown.

The main agency for gas distribution, the Consumer Cooperative Society Ltd, once again totally failed in regular supply of LPG cylinders due to reasons only known to them. Government employees are the worst affected group, due to the LPG scarcity, as they are unable collect cylinders from faraway places/gowdowns etc.

Time and again it is noticed that schedules for supply of cylinders are being made, only to not follow the same. I would, therefore, request your goodself to kindly look in to the matter personally considering its gravity and order immediate and effective measures to mitigate the hardship of General Public and Government employees, by ensuring regular supply of LPG Cylinders.

Action taken in the matter may kindly be intimated to this Association.

                                                                                    Yours faithfully,

                                                                                    ( T S Sreekumar )
                                                                                    General Secretary
