NGOs' Association protests the posting of AE(APWD) to the post of Asst. Director(SS) at Chennai

NEWS ITEM
Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt Officers’ Association along with a group of Assistant Secretaries and Office Superintendents working under the Andaman and Nicobar Administration met the Chief Secretary, A & N Administration today (5th July, 2012) morning and submitted a letter from the Association expressing its strong protest against the decision of the Administration to post an Assistant Engineer of the APWD to hold the post of Assistant Director (Shipping Services) at Chennai. The person who held the post of Assistant Director (SS) at Chennai retired from service on 30th June, 2012 and while the process for posting an Assistant Secretary/ Assistant Director (Admn) was underway, the Administration suddenly issued an order on 4th July, 2012 transferring an Assistant Engineer of APWD from Port Blair to Chennai to function as Assistant Director (Shipping Services). It was explained to the Chief Secretary that the post of Assistant Director (Shipping Services) is a cadre post of Amalgamated Clerical Cadre and only the Assistant Directors( Admn)/ Assistant Secretaries borne on the AC Cadre are always posted against the said post. The Association requested the Chief Secretary to reconsider the decision as the present move on the part of the Administration has created widespread resentment among the Clerical Cadre officials. The Chief Secretary, who was sympathetic to the demand of the Association, finally agreed to post an Assistant Secretary/ Assistant Director (Admn) from the Amalgamated Clerical Cadre as Assistant Director (Shipping Services) at Chennai. The General Secretary appreciated the stand taken by the Chief Secretary in resolving the issue.
