A
meeting of the Central Executive Committee of the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’
Association held on 24th March 2012 at Port Blair, has expressed
concern over the move on the part of the Administration to privatize the health
sector in the islands. A resolution adopted in the meeting noted that as part
of the privatization of the entire health sector, the Administration has handed
over the running of two Primary Health Centres – at Kishorinagar in Diglipur
and Chouldari in South Andaman – to private agencies. This move will not only
affect the employment chance of educated local youths, but will also lead to
deterioration of health care system in the islands. Such a situation will, in
turn, adversely affect the lower strata of the society, the resolution noted.
The meeting resolved to urge upon the A & N Administration to refrain from
handing over Primary Health Centres/Dispensaries to private agencies.
Shri
Sadanand Rai, Vice President of the Association presided while Shri D.Ayyappan,
General Secretary addressed the meeting.
