A
documentary titled “RED- The
History of Non- Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association, Andaman & Nicobar
Islands” produced by the
Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association
as part of its ongoing Diamond Jubilee Celebration, has been released
today (12.04.2014) at a function
held at Kerala Samjam Hall, Phoenix Bay, Port Blair at 6.p.m. The documentary which was directed by Shri
S.N.Sreeprakash, a well known artist and painter of these islands, was formally
released by Shri Lucas Robert, Director (Sports, Arts & Culture), A & N
Administration. Shri Durg Vijay Singh
Deep, Deputy Director (News), AIR Port Blair Regional News Unit, pressed the
button for screening the documentary. The 25 minute duration documentary depicts the history and struggles of the
Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association in these islands since its formation
during 1954 and more particularly from the arrival of legendary leader PKS
Prasad to these islands in 1964. It
briefly shows how the government employees in these islands got various
benefits which they enjoy today including the residential accommodation and
Andaman Special Allowance (now SCA) through the relentless struggles of
government employees.
Addressing
the gathering Shri DVS Deep said that the documentary will definitely be an
inspiration for the new generation in government service. Shri Lucas Robert appreciated the efforts of
the Association for producing this documentary. Earlier, Shri TS Sreekumar,
Secretary, Diamond Jubilee Celebration Committee welcomed the
Chief Guest, Guests and others present on the occasion. Dr Sashikumar, Director, Anthropological
Survey of India, Port Blair presented Memento to two artists who were the main
casts in the documentary. At the end,
Shri Sadanand Rai, President of the Association proposed vote of thanks. A large number of people from different walks
of life including old leaders of the Association attended the screening of the
documentary.
