At the call of the central trade
unions, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Andaman and Nicobar State Committee
jointly with the Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’ Association has observed today the 3rd
October, 2012 as International Action Day. The day was observed all over the world by trade
unions affiliated to World Federation of
Trade Unions. On the occasion of International Action Day, the WFTU has decided
to raise five issues which are of utmost and essential pre-requisite for human
existence i.e. Food, Water, Health,
Education and Housing for all.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri B.
Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, CITU State Committee has come down heavily on the UPA government’s
anti-people policies which put working class to untold misery. Elaborating the importance of the International Action Day and this years’ issues
to be highlighted by trade unions
throughout the country at the call of
the World Federation of Trade Unions,
Shri D. Ayyappan, General Secretary, Non-Gazetted Govt. Officers’
Association said that successive governments at the Centre have
been depriving the people particularly
government employees and workers of their
right to have food, drinking
water, health, education and housing for all.
Shri Sadanand Rai, Vice President
of the Association condemned the steep rise in the LPG cylinders which will upset the house budget of lower strata of working class. Shri SB Chatterjee of CITU also addressed the
gathering. A large number of employees
and workers attended the function.
